Overview

OSMASE (pronounced "ahz-maze") is an Open Source Metadata Archive Search Engine.

OSMASE is written in PHP and relies on an SQL database underneath. It offers the following features:

  • keyword searching
  • fielded searching (sometimes referred to as "advanced search")
  • grouped fielded searching (fielded searching w/ logical group support)
  • metadata schema independence
  • phrase support (surrounding two or more terms with quotes)
  • term exclusion support (preceding terms with a minus sign to find only results that do not contain those terms)
  • term inclusion support (preceding terms with a plus sign to find only results that do contain those terms)
  • configurable default search logic
  • field weighting
  • search result ranking by relevance
  • dynamic search index updating
OSMASE is included in both the SPT and CWIS software packages, and was originally developed for use with SPT.
